It’s no secret that senior sessions are one of my favorite things to photograph. I especially love it when seniors personalize their session to fit them and their interests. Colby did exactly that by choosing the USS North Carolina Battleship as his senior session location.
Colby was a senior at Topsail High School in Hampstead, NC (my hometown and previous high school) and it was an honor photographing him! He was a part of the JROTC program at Topsail and his branch of interest was the Coast Guard. Colby plans on joining the Coast Guard once he has completed his education. Colby comes from a long line of military servicemen. This session was extra special because he choose to include his dad, a navy officer, as well as honoring his grandfather by wearing his military jacket.
The USS North Carolina is a popular tourist destination in Wilmington, NC. While editing programs allow for the removal of items and people, we wanted to avoid the crowd as much as possible. We decided to start the session early in the morning, which was perfect because we were able to avoid most of the other guests while exploring the ship. We spent some time getting solo portraits before moving on to the images of Colby and his dad. It was awesome to see the two of them bond over their shared love of the military.
